Study to Investigate Importance of Mobile Technology and Investor Relations Apps in Investor Decision Making; Effect on Company Stock Performance and Overall Capital Market Behavior
NEW YORK (MAY 5, 2014) — New York University’s Stern School of Business Professor Michael Tang will be collaborating with theIRapp®, to research the impact of mobile investor relations (IR) technology on the capital markets and investor behavior.
The study, a first of its kind, will look at public companies that have implemented mobile strategies, particularly the use of native investor relations (IR) apps, in IR communications. It will seek to determine the impact that such technology has on the way companies communicate, the way investors make investment decisions and the overall effect that mobile technology has on stock performance and capital market behavior. Specifically, the study seeks to empirically evaluate the impact that mobile technology and IR apps may have on a company’s trading volume, stock liquidity, bid-ask spread, and analyst coverage, among others.
To date, theIRapp, a native mobile app communications technology platform, has nearly 100 subscribing companies across all industries and of all market capitalizations, including Fortune 100 and global companies located in Brazil, Australia, Israel, Canada and throughout Europe. More than 50,000 investors – institutional and retail – have downloaded the apps of subscribing public companies. Data provided to Professor Tang will be used anonymously given the proprietary nature of the information.

Professor Tang joined New York University Stern School of Business in July 2012. His research centers on investor relations and corporate disclosure as it relates to capital market participants such as financial analysts. Professor Tang received a B.A. in Finance from Fudan University. He received an M.S. in Applied Economics and a Ph.D. in Accounting from the University of Rochester.
